One of the main objectives of the Department of Applied Geophysics is to explore and evaluate local soil conditions through the methods of seismic exploration to thoroughly analyze seismological dangers, study local structure of soil and determine its physical and mechanical parameters. Determining the importance of physical and mechanical characteristics of main and modern rocks for the seismic stations is also important. One of the key tasks of the Department of Applied Geophysics is conducting geophysical research into Georgia’s water areas – Black Sea water areas, holding underwater research and exploring the lakes of Georgia. The Department of Applied Geophysics is actively involved in engineering and geological research through applying geophysical methods. Exploring soil structure through geophysical methods is also paramount for plants, multi-story residential houses, etc. (see projects).
